CPC Delegation|Elderly Care and Food Education in Rural Japan

This video presents a recap of the CPC Delegation on Elderly Care and Food Education in Rural Japan. Held in November 2023 as part of the Council of Agriculture’s Green Care Program, the delegation included members from the COA Guidance Department, Taoyuan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, and the China Productivity Center.

The visit focused on:
💠Challenges of an aging rural society: With 29% of Japan’s population now elderly, how can agriculture and community innovation provide solutions?
💠Urban agriculture & elderly care: Exploring ways to integrate welfare, health promotion, and farming in metropolitan areas.
💠Case studies & site visits: Including an integrated agricultural enterprise in Saitama, the Japan Cooperative Alliance (JCA), Itoya’s rooftop plant factory in Ginza, the Horticultural Therapy Association, Insagi Farm, senior community gardens, and the Kawasaki agricultural market.
💠Green Care & productive aging: How agriculture can foster wellness, social participation, and the concept of “active aging.” Through these visits and exchanges, the delegation gained insights into how agriculture can extend beyond food production to encompass care, education, therapy, and social cohesion.
